To be honest, I have been quite unimpressed with Steven Meisel's photography recently. However, these two editorials have restored my faith somewhat.
The first is from the January issue of Vogue Italia, which features three of the most wanted models of the moment: Viktoriya Sasonkina (one of Meisel's current favourites), Anna Selezneva (just started getting a fair amount of work and will probably continue to do so) Anna Maria Jagodzinska (who won the most campaigns this season)
The editorial itself is mostly in black&white and the ones that are in colour feature clothing in subtle, soft, neutral shades. The clothes appear futuristic and have structure to their shapes. These photographs are accompanied with other images of architectural structures. (See images 529-548)
The second editorial, is from the February edition of US Vogue. These photographs have brilliant composition and in contrast to the Vogue Italia editorial, they are full of bright colours. As usual with this magazine, the styling is pretty much a replica of what is found on the runway, and although not realistic to life, in these photographs it works. This is possibly the best editorial US Vogue has had among its pages for months.
