The new Issey Miyake campaign "Pleats Please" caught my eye recently. The photographs feature pleated clothes arranged to form shapes inspired by sushi. What I find intriguing about these pictures is how neatly the fabric is arranged, and how this lends itself well to the tidy presentation of sushi.
In some ways I prefer Resort and Pre-Fall collections to the main SS and FW collections. Why? Because there are generally lower expectations and who doesn't enjoy a pleasant surprise?
Bottega Veneta is not one of my favourite fashion labels but I usually find some nice pieces in their collections and this was no exception. Bold colours, thin stripes and loose fitting items convey an image that is casual yet sophisticated. Most of all I love the way the accessories (scarves, belts and handbags) really make the clothes stand out.
My highlights from this collection:
Not the greatest photos ever as they were taken with my iPhone, but I thought these window displays at Selfridges were gorgeous.

There are some couture collections in the past which have literally blown my mind, but recently I have been generally a bit disappointed. I am excited about JPG & Lacroix, Givenchy and Chanel could go either way (sometimes I get tired of seeing the same things at Chanel), interested to see what happens at Valentino. I want to look forward to Dior, but equally I don't want to be disappointed.
I would love for Gareth Pugh and McQueen to do couture collections.
Unrelated point: this is my 50th post in this blog. I'm pleased that I've kept it up for as long as I have.
A brief summary of the newest V magazine...I don't really understand the point of having 14 different covers but anyway... (for the record I think Anja Rubik's cover is the best)
There are some good editorials in this issue. Firstly "The Eniko Story" by Inez and Vinoodh, featuring new model Eniko Mihalik. Warning: contains nudity.
"Chanel Iman on Ice" photographed by Will Davidson. I often dislike Chanel Iman's editorial work but here she delivers and the scenery is beautiful.
Tyra Banks and Sessilee Lopez, also by Sebastian Faena in "I called her mahogany". I find Tyra is a little too overposed here, but the colours work well and I love the "fake covers" image.
And I'm unsure the title of this, but it shows some beautiful colour combinations, shoes and tights.
Another fashion editorial that caught my eye recently... "Amour Fou" in the October issue of Vogue Germany photographed by Alexi Lumbomirksi. The reason I found this interesting was that it brought to mind gender roles in couples today and how they are becoming interchangeable. Using the same model (Magdalena Frackowiak) for both roles only highlights the fact that women can take on the traditional role of a man, both in fashion - I've seen a lot of androgynous clothes on the runways for this winter, and also in relationships. I also believe it hints at the gender roles adopted in same-sex relationships. On a personal level though, it reminds me of my own style - which can be a feminine dress one day, a business outfit with a smart jacket and trousers the next, and some loose fitting clothes for lounging around the house the day after.
